Ashagi Guzdek settlement was called like Guzdek station of Jeyranbatan settlement Soviet of Apsheron district or Guzdek Nalivnoy till 1990. Professor Maryem Mahmudbeyov informs based on information from Turkish sources that the word Guzdek means "Turkish place". According to other consideration "Guz" means autumn (in Turkish "Kuz") and "dek" is suffix which means place, residence. So the combination of these words means "fall room", "fall nomad camp", "shady place". Only this etymology of name "Guzdek" may be correct. At the same time, Guzdek is explained like "residence of quz kin". Differentiating features of Guzdek settlement from other villages and settlements of Apsheron is cultivation of shani grape, saffron, pistachio and its location near to railroad station. Fig and almond is cultivated in the settlement. National customs are preserved. 80 persons were take part in Karabakh War. 8 of them were killed.
Ashagi Guzdek settlement is surrounded by Jeyrabatan settlement (from the north), Mushfigabad and 28 May settlements (from the west). The settlement is located in hilly and flat area, 17 km of Baku-Shamakhi road. There are two salt lakes near the settlement. The settlement was in structure of Jeyranbatan settlement Soviet of Apsheron district till February, 1991. Ashagi Guzdek settlement was founded according to Decree No 54-XII (February 7, 1991) of Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan Republic.
Guzdek railroad station was put into operation at the same time with railroad stations of Bilajari, Khirdalan, Sumgayit and other when railroad was built between Azerbaijan and Russia. One-storeyed buildings, 10 "Fin houses" were contracted here fore railroaders. After 50s, 5 two-storeyed buildings with 6 and 8 flats were built for railroaders. After 1965, 6 two-storeyed buildings with 12 flats were built for railroaders. So, the first building in Ashagi Guzdek station was the administrative building of Guzdek station. Boarding-school operated in the settlement till 1964. The boarding-school school was moved to another place in 1964. The eight year school has begun to operate in the building of the boarding-school since 1965. Dormitory of the boarding-school was accommodated and given to Scientific-Research Food-stuff, Cultivation of Meadows and Pastures Institute, in 1969. At present, a secondary school, out-patient's clinic, kindergarten and post office operate in the settlement.
Population of the settlement is 2164 according to date January 1, 2008. 98 per cent of the population is Azerbaijani, 2 percent is Russian and Lezghin.
Poultry and five brick-yards operate in the settlement. Over 300 employees work in these enterprises. Railroad oil station operates near the settlement. 11 trading markets and kiosks operate in the settlement. Scientific-Research Food-stuff, Cultivation of Meadows and Pastures Institute attached to Agrarian Science Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture. 112 persons work in the Scientific-Research Institute. One of them is doctor, 11 persons are candidates of science.
The secondary school is named after martyr Samidkhan Azizov. The school has been attached to Educational Department of Apsheron district since 2001. 528 pupils go to the school. 40 teachers, 12 technical employees work here.
Out-patient's clinic has operated in the settlement since 1984. The out-patient's clinic was moved to nine-room building in 2008. Two high-educated physicians and 3 nurses work here.
Kindergarten has not operated in Ashagi Guzdek settlement until 2008. New six-room building was built for kindergarten in March, 2008.
There are no ancient historical monuments in Ashagi Guzdek settlement.
